Motor Vehicle Accidents

If your vehicle has been towed to Jacks Towing following a motor vehicle accident, we're here to help make the process as simple as possible.

Step 1: Report Your Accident to ICBC
Before your vehicle can be released, you must report the accident to ICBC and obtain a claim number.

Report your claim by:

  • Submitting your claim online through ICBC.
  • Calling ICBC at 604-520-8222.

Step 2: Contact Jacks Towing
Once you have your ICBC claim number

If your ICBC claim has not yet been approved:
The registered owner may pay the towing and storage charges directly. Once your claim is approved, you can submit your receipt to ICBC for reimbursement (subject to ICBC's approval).

Vehicle Impoundments

If your vehicle has been impounded, it must remain in the impound lot for the full impoundment period required by law.
Please note:

  • Impound periods are calculated in 24-hour increments.
  • The day your vehicle was towed does not count toward the impound period.

How to Retrieve Your Vehicle

Once the impound period has ended, the registered owner may retrieve the vehicle by:

  • Visiting the impound lot in person.
  • Presenting valid government-issued photo identification.
  • Bringing a licensed driver if they do not hold a valid driver's licence.
  • Paying all towing, storage, and impound fees.

Business-owned vehicles

If the vehicle is registered to a business, documentation confirming business ownership will also be required.
Once these requirements have been met, your vehicle will be released.

Can't Pick Up Your Vehicle?

If you're unable to attend in person, you may authorize someone else to collect your vehicle on your behalf.

Step 1: Email Us

Email the following to [email protected]:

  • A copy of the front and back of your government-issued photo ID.
  • A signed authorization stating:
  • Your full name (registered owner).
  • The full name of the person authorized to pick up the vehicle (must match their government-issued ID).
  • A description of the vehicle, including the make, model, colour, licence plate, and any other identifying information.

Step 2: Your Authorized Representative Must Bring

  • Valid government-issued photo ID and a valid driver's licence.
  • Payment for all towing, storage, and impound fees (if not already paid).

Unclaimed Vehicles

If a vehicle is not collected after the impound period has expired, Jacks Towing may begin the legal process to dispose of the vehicle in accordance with provincial regulations.

Please be aware that unpaid towing or storage charges may affect your ability to renew your driver's licence or vehicle insurance until the outstanding balance has been paid.

Private Property Tows

If your vehicle was towed from a private parking lot, the tow was requested by an authorized property representative, such as a strata council or property manager.

Jacks Towing responds only to authorized tow requests and does not patrol private parking lots independently.

If you believe your vehicle was towed in error, please contact your strata council or property manager directly.

How to Retrieve Your Vehicle

To release your vehicle, the registered owner must provide:

  • A valid driver's licence.
  • Proof of valid vehicle insurance.
  • Payment of all applicable towing and storage charges.

Both identification and proof of insurance are required before your vehicle can be released.
